MARCH 2023 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to this months Newsletter
President Minutes

Our latest evening meeting at the Dome was particularly well attended with great numbers In attendance. This may have had something to do with our speaker, Rotarian Bernie McCartan who talked of the energy crisis and the various studies and works he has been involved in to find a solution to the rising cost of power.  Such was the interest in the subject matter that the meeting  went into overtime as the presentation created many more questions than answers to the problem  in the short term.

It was pleasing to see members wearing their badges which are less cumbersome and readily portable. If you have yet to get your badge, I have them readily available at my house. I will also bring them to the meeting when I can. The Sergeant at our last meeting was very threatening of ramifications if we are not seen to be wearing our badges.

I had the extreme pleasure of attending at the villages of the borderless friendship project at Chiang Mei in company with a number of Rotarians and non Rotarians. What a fabulous program is being run to assist these children. And whilst they are far from privileged the kids were the most delightful company for the entire time we were with them. Of great interest was seeing the children of all types of ages just grasp at the ability to gain
knowledge and interact. They were learning many things including presenting of food at a sports day, selling goods and operating the money change so precisely. It was fantastic to see a Rotary sponsored program being so successful! It was also a wonderful time to visit with temperate weather and plenty of exciting things to
do and people to meet. They were really appreciative of the club jumpers and shoes and books that we took up for them. And a bit of shopping on the way out there provided some stores for the two villages we attended.

This is the last month of the trial meeting period so please be ready to make a determination as to how you wish to meet after March. We will revert back to weekly meetings at lunchtimes should there not be a majority desire to have change. The meeting in the first week of April (3rd April, 2023) is to determine which is the preferred
meeting time and place and with what regularity we meet, so please be there to have your voting influence.

I do note that even with the trial for meeting times that there are still committee meetings held and community and Rotary programs are ongoing.

Mark your calendars down for the Melville Rotary Changeover at Royal Perth Golf Club. This event will be on TUESDAY 27th June 2023 at 6.00pm for 6.30pm start.

Again, I reiterate my thanks for the work that you have selflessly giving to assist our Community both local and abroad.
