MAY 23 NEWSLETTER

President Minute

The month of May 2023 is particularly busy for the members of our Rotary Club.

Eventually it has been determined that club meetings will be held at the South of Perth Yacht Club (a location familiar to us all) on a two meeting per month basis, with the first meaning of the month as a lunch meeting and the second meeting of the month as an evening meeting. The evening meeting is to provide an opportunity for those members who can't make the lunch meeting to attend for fellowship enter here from the quality speakers
that have been arranged for those meetings. I suspect that the experimentation for the meeting times will continue in the short term.

Whilst the meetings have been great there has been plenty going on in the sphere of projects for our Rotary Club. Most recently has been the Queen Elizabeth 2 jubilee tree planting programme which is thus far resulted in the piping being laid and the ground prepared for the implantation of the trees. In all there will be approximately 1500 banksia trees planted on June 11th 2023. With the assistance of students from Santa Maria college it's hoped that all seedlings will be planted between the hours of 8:30am and 1:30pm.

Later on Sunday the 11th of June 2023 is a commencement of the annual Melville and Applecross Rotary Art show. Obviously we will need as many hands on deck for the receipt of the art by the artists on the Sunday afternoon and I ask as many Rotarians as we can have attend to assist with this project. James Morris is work particularly hard on this program and it looks to be a bumper year for art submissions. This of course reflects so well on the programme but your help will be needed so please put your name down for rostered periods manning the shopping centre and selling art where you can.

As we slowly come to a close for this Rotary year preparations are in place for the Annual changeover which is to be held at the royal Perth Golf Club on Tuesday 27th of June 2023. This will see our President Elect Phil Draber be inducted as the president of our club for the 2023 to 2024 Rotary year. This event has been subsidised for members and their partners with the cost of only $50 per person and a complimentary drink on arrival so if you have not yet advised of your attendance please do so at your earliest opportunity.

Margaret Waterton receiving her certificate for Great Service

in the 2021-2022 Rotary Year

It was very pleasant to see the return of PP Charles and Rtn Margaret Waterton from their lengthy trip around Australia and we look forward to hearing a synopsis of their trip in the near future.

And the Rotary work still continues with PP Murray Meaton, Rtn Marilyn Kench and others attending for the third visitation by members of our club in this Rotary year to Borderless Friends With Lorel Mayberry AM. It is a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to everyone. It makes me realize how lucky we are.
