Leeuwin's First Sale
Lloyd Phillips and his father at the blessing of the Sailing Ship Leeuwin on Saturday 26th September.  Lloyd is on the first sailing since the accident in Fremantle where the cargo severely damaged the Leeuwin.  Lloyd attends CBC and is a wonderful young man.

Lift the Lid for Mental Health Walk
around Wireless Hill and suburbs on Sunday. The weather was fine, the set up looked amazing, and the only disappointment was the very low participant numbers. The intent was to embrace the local community through the extensive promotions so our reflections will now focus on how to improve community engagement. We are excited about the possibility of including the Walk in the program of events for the Wireless Hill Community Day in 2027.

Thank you to Melville Rotary Members for their part in supporting the BIG BUTT HUNT 2026 held at Elizabeth Quay on Sunday morning on World Cleanup Day 🙏
Along with volunteers from Bottle Top Hill, Sea Shepherd (Perth) & UWA, a total of 3,820 were cigarette butts saved from entering our waterways.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Become a Mentor: Developing Future Talent Through Mentoring Information Session yesterday.
I have attached a copy of the group photograph from the Information Session. Please feel free to share it to help raise awareness of the mentoring initiative and encourage others to contribute to the development of future talent through mentoring.

I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to those who have already submitted their Mentor Expression of Interest (EOI). Your willingness to share your experience, insights and professional wisdom will make a meaningful difference to our students and contribute to the development of future workforce capability.
One of the key messages from the session was simple:

Careers are most often shaped by conversations.
Through Murdoch University's Business Leaders and Professionals to Students Mentoring, you have the opportunity to:

  • Develop future talent
  • Strengthen industry-university engagement
  • Support future workforce capability
  • Extend the impact of your leadership beyond your organisation and profession
  • Leave a lasting legacy through future professionals and leaders
The commitment is intentionally manageable:

  • Six (6) one-hour mentoring conversations
  • Over a nine-week mentoring journey from 9th Oct to 11th Dec
  • Flexible virtual or in-person engagement with 1st and 6th session on-site at Murdoch
  • Structured onboarding and ongoing programme support

 Neil Cownie
was the speaker on 23rd September's meeting. Neil won first prize for his design to redevelop Irwin Barracks and also a Churchill Scholarship.
He gave us an informative description on how he would like to see the development of our newer suburbs in relation to the ecology of the local areas.  It was a stimulating talk with lots of questions.
