August is a time of year when many of our members are on holiday, but that stop the great work that goes on in this club. Despite the weather, the markets still continue to operate, and are busy. With weekly static costs that occur whether the markets are open or closed, the Board made the decision to increase the fee per car bay (or equivalent) to $20.00 as from January 1st, 2025. Notices will go out to all sellers from September onwards.
Club committees are meeting and continuing with ongoing projects and looking at some new ones, and we turn to looking at applying for funding from a range of suitable grants that are available.
On Thursday 29th August, 2024, Bunnings Melville was alive with Father’s Day activities for all members of the family. There was a free sausage sizzle, coffee and popcorn, displays of guide Dogs for the Blind, Raptor Birds, free children’s activities and displays for the parents.
In amongst all this, Melville Rotary had a display table with a power point on the work we had been involved in at Point Walter, as well as free seedling give aways, and pamphlets telling people what Melville Rotary does.
We had several people put their names down as interested in coming along to Melville Rotary to see what we do.
We hope to be involved in the next two for this year- one for Halloween and one just before Christmas.
Coming up: There is a chamber of Commerce/Rotary Means Business event at South of Perth Yacht Club on Wednesday 25th September, 2024.
There will be a Rotary Community Group 1 Workshop on Sunday 8th September, where all the Club Presidents from Group 1 will get together again to workshop how the clubs can work together in various ways, including group projects and social events. More about this in the next newsletter.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the various upcoming events, especially those who are not able to make the Monday lunchtime meetings.
District Governor Visit
Monday 16th September, 2024
The Rotary Clubs of Applecross is hosting a combined dinner meeting for both of our clubs to meet the District Governor, Pat Shraven. She is not expecting to meet with the Boards of the Clubs prior to the dinner, but will update and enlighten us with current information from Rotary International.
The meeting will take place at the Dome Café (in the separate meeting room) at Deepwater Point at 6.00 for 6.30pm.
Dinner Arrangements: Please order your own meal at the counter upon arrival at 6.00pm and then head across to the separate meeting room.
It is a great opportunity, as always, to learn about the latest information from Rotary International and of course, partners are welcome.
