President’s Report 
 

PDG Marilyn Barton

As we are now at the end of 2025, I would like to take a moment to say thank you to the members of the Rotary Club of Melville. Thank you for your passion for sharing the ideals of Rotary and your shared commitment to further the work of our club within the community, both locally and overseas. We have expanded our reach, influence and capability to make a difference.

Thank you for making the commitment to be a member of the Rotary Club of Melville and enjoy a range of meetings and social events with other like minded members, while involved in making better outcomes for the communities we serve, all in our own individual ways.

During the month of December, we held a stall at Bunnings, selling raffle tickets and promoting Rotary. Thank you to Trevor Ridgewell and Bec Saracini for organising this and operating the stall on the night.

The AGM was held on Wednesday 10th December, 2025, and at this meeting, we elected the following members for positions in the Rotary year 2026-27 - Dale Cole as President, Phillip Draber as Treasurer and James Morris as Secretary. Thank you to those members who have made this commitment.

However we are currently looking for a President Elect, so if you are possibly interested, please contact me.

After the AGM, we also heard a very interesting Thumbnail from Wayne Marshall (see elsewhere in Newsletter for a summary).

We finished the year with a Christmas party at Leigh Smith’s. Thank you very much to Leigh for organising the event, as well as to our latest members Erin and Cher for presenting a fashion parade.

BOTTLETOP HILL REPORT

It was lovely to have Jacqui and Greg in attendance representing Melville Rotary at the December event for Bottle Top Hill (I was able to capture an image of them by the Rotary Function Room door to share on our socials). 😉

Wayne Marshall
Our newest Rotarian

Wayne has worked at a variety of jobs since he left school. He was very keen to have his own car, so found a job as a Sales Rep with H &M Wills and was given a car to drive, and was very happy.

He then moved on and worked for 3M, Hitachi sales, Breeze Air Airconditioning, and eventually Harvey Norman and Retravision, where he was sourcing and buying products for them from China. This business went from zero to six million dollars over a few years. At the age of 65, Wayne planned to retire and hand over the business. However he continued working for Retravision, sourcing products from China

Wayne has also been involved in a number of voluntary organisations, and when he joins an organisation, he becomes strongly involved. Wayne has been chair and or president of several organisations before joining rotary. Since joining the Rotary Club of Melville, Wayne has been mentoring a young man from Bhutan, who is currently studying at Murdoch university. Wayne has identified that thus young person is struggling a bit with his self confidence and therefore Wayne is helping the young person to build it, and is really enjoying the role.

Wayne’s motto is” You have to have goals-because without goals, you cant achieve anything”.
