Welcome to our newest members, Erin Mai, Cher Nguyen
and Rebecca Saracini, who was inducted into the Rotary Club of Melville on Wednesday 27th August, 2025. During the month of August we heard from Adam Hawber, the CEO Ability Heroes and PDG David Barton on the topic of Regionalisation.
Melville Rotarians with Katy Mair (Mayor of Melville)
In addition, in conjunction with Capital Community Radio and Melville City Council we hosted the Open Day at Wireless Hill, which was a great success, especially for the first one of its kind. The weather was very kind to us, with a warm sun shining down by 10.00am, the wildflowers we out and we showcased the local Rotary clubs,
Shelterbox, Capital Community Radio Station, the Museum, the VHF Amateur Radio station,
the Chamber of Commerce and
Cycling without Age rides.
There was also a series of radio interviews, including the District Governor, Veronica Lawrence, Melville Mayor, Katie Mair, Rotary Club of Applecross and the Rotary club of Melville, including a presentation of a PHF on air, from the Rotary Club of Melville for the founder of the radio station, 23 years ago,
Lol Winchcombe.
A huge thank you to those involved in the organisation of this event, especially Charles Waterton, David Barton, Janice Pounder and Ian Williams, as well as all those who turned up on the day.
The upcoming programme of speakers for the Wednesday meetings in September 2025 are as follows, and we hope to see as many as possible to hear the guest speakers.
- Wednesday 10th September, 2025: Sarah Garvey, Wounded Volunteers
- Wednesday 24th September, 2025: Visit by our District Governor, Veronica Lawrence with an update on Rotary International
There are also a few other activities and social events coming up in the next few months, and I have listed them below:
There is a Cyber Security Briefing talk by the Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday 17th September, 2025 from 4.30pm -7.30pm, to be held in Success. You would have already received an email about this one and please respond directly to the MCCC if you wish to attend.
The next social event is another casual dinner, this time at the Wray Avenue hotel, on Wray Ave in Fremantle (see the flyer elsewhere in this newsletter). Please let me know by Wednesday 24th September, 2025 on Marilyn.Barton@iinet.net.au if you are able to attend or otherwise.
Another date for your diaries will be Sunday 19th October, when we are planning a day outing to Whiteman Park by train. More details to follow.
