Following our successful March 25 meeting, we certainly weren’t let down with a fabulous presentation by Jennifer Nichols from Mercy Ships. She was pleasantly surprised by the Paul Harris fellowship and even more so about our club’s willingness to donate to partially cover her next trip to a country whose medical services are bolstered by the presence of a Mercy ship.
Our watering continues unabated and a big thanks to Charles Waterton and the hose holders who turn up every second Saturday at 0700 to assist with the watering. The way that the weather is we can but hope we get some much-needed rain.

Following up from our watering presentation, I’m pleased to let you know that PE Marilyn and I got appointments to see the MLA for Bateman, Kim Gidden, on 29 April and the CEO, Mayor and Director Community Development, City of Melville on 6 May 29. The meeting that Marilyn and I had with Kim was well-worth the time and the mutually beneficial exchange of information will stand the club in good stead – but more on that later.
I digress, 22 April 24 saw a trip down memory lane with Inner Wheel – we learnt (as if we didn’t know) that some of the Smith children were delinquents, about our history in an entertaining presentation by those grand dames! Most importantly we welcome David Jamieson as a new club member and have scored another prospective member Paula who manned the bottom spinner at our markets! With 25 – 30 people attending each meeting, we’ve certainly a story to tell and sell Talking of selling two record breaking markets in a row! Great for the coffers but also a big reminder (and the Inner Wheel presentation reinforced this) how important the Markets are in our community; and that’s not just locally with the largest impact. We told Kim Giddens, we’ve made donations of money or equipment for recipients in Broome and overseas. That speaks to our communities being local, national, and international.

Finally, congratulations to PDG David Barton on his election as the first Rotary Community Leader for our Group, Group 1, under the regionalisation project. On those broader district matters, thanks to those who attended and assisted on rotary WA day on 13 April 24. We’ve District Assembly on 19 May which coincides with Cruising Butterflies but I’m going to the Assembly at Northam on 11 May 24 so we can do that important event and support our district.
Thank you again for giving me the privilege to be the President this Rotary Year. Keeping doing good and bringing hope.
Cheerio and go kindly,
Phillip
