NOVEMBER 2024 NEWSLETTER
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Marilyn Barton
This month we have heard from two excellent speakers,

Meriel Pickering from the City of Melville and Dr Jacinta Vu on Healing Smiles.

It was also wonderful to see so many Rotarians and their partners at the Twilight Wine and Cheese at Kareena and Ross’s home on Monday 18th November, 2024 in celebration of the clubs 65th anniversary.  Many thanks to Kareena and Ross for the anniversary cake with sparklers and opening up their home once again and hosting this event.

Our involvement with our local group of clubs, the Rotary Community Group 1, continues, as the eleven presidents continue to choose one or more projects within the two focus areas of need identified by the Group, Trees and Homelessness. At this stage, nothing definite is in place, but there is continuing research as to how we can make a bigger impact within the community by coming together as a group of clubs.
We have been invited by the Rotary Club of Booragoon to hear a speaker from St Pats in Fremantle on Tuesday 3rd December, 2024, 6.00pm for 6.30pm at the Dome in Deepwater Point, Mt Pleasant on the topic of Homelessness, and all members are welcome to attend their meeting.
Our next two Monday meetings are the AGM on Monday 9th December, 2024, and the informal Club Christmas party on Sunday 22nd December, 2024 at Jeff Joseph Reserve (Applecross Jetty), Applecross from 4.00pm-7.00pm. Bring your own picnic gear, family members, and enjoy some informal fellowship.
We will kick off 2025 on Monday 13th January with guest speaker, Dutch Bikers Against Child Abuse.

HELP WITH RESEARCH
My PhD student, Adam Qihao Xiong, and I are conducting research on not-for-profit (NFP) organisations and the volunteers who work with them to benefit communities and environments in need. Specifically, our research explores NFP personality as well as volunteer motivation and well-being.

Adam and I are convening a focus group to get insights from people with experience in volunteering. Details of the focus group are as follows:

Date/Time: Monday, 2 December, 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Venue: Curtin Robertson Library Training Room 434A, Kent St, Bentley
